Water soup, which is a regional Silesian soup, has become very popular lately. The main ingredient of the soup is hot water, along with stale bread and other ingredients soaked in water. Water soup is prepared very simply, as the name itself suggests that it mainly consists of water. It is made by pouring broth or boiling water seasoned with broth over stale bread that has been stored for two to three days in a dry place, along with finely chopped and crushed garlic and salt. Before consumption, lard or butter is added. Water soup is sometimes also consumed with "bratkartofle," which are roasted potatoes.
Ingredients needed to prepare water soup:
To prepare water soup, boil a liter of water. Then press the garlic through a press or finely chop it and mix it with salt. Take the bread and cut it into large cubes. Then evenly distribute the prepared ingredients into four deep plates, then pour boiling water over them, add fat (lard or butter), season to taste with Maggi seasoning. Serve the cooked soup alone or with boiled potatoes and fried with onions.
Water soup made according to the 'traditional recipe' includes bacon cut into cubes, fried in a pan until crispy. Garlic is mashed with salt, and the stale bread is cut and added with garlic, pouring everything with fat scraps, and then hot water.
In Germany, it is known as "Wassersuppe" (Water Soup), although it is not exactly the same recipe.
